1 Reason I Love My Job!

One night during the jam...this fellow popped by and told us where and when he started playing banjo. This is one of the reasons I love my job!

Another reason I love my job is seeing backstage. I love anything to do with performance! Setting up, the make up, the take down, the roadies, sound check, practice, rehearsal. (I love making a film because of all this too) Here in the hallway of the Old Town School Of Folk Music is a huge mural (which I adore!!!!!)  by Chicago based artist Tony Fitzpatrick. It is a tryptich and one of the huge panels slides to open up behind the stage in the auditorium...this way a grand piano can be loaded onto the stage.

Felt Flower Pot

Some people just come up with great ideas. The woman who owns "Delicious" Vegan coffee shop made these felt window boxes. I thought they were so brilliant. Delicious vegan Cafe has the best coffee in Chicago. Although it is vegan food, they provide cream for coffee drinkers.

We Made A Zine Again!

One of my co-workers and I thought we'd make a zine with news about all the projects our other co-workers do...like bands, art, music etc. We just got it done a small first run and already we have two articles offered for our next issue! Oh, the Zine is called AUNTIE FOLK.

Disco Queen, R.I.P.

Ah, you know, I gotta tell you I used to not like Donna Summer at all.

But this weird thing with a lot of songs from the radio that I used to now like over time many of them have become nostalgic for me and I appreciate them.

I think this song "I Feel Love" is absolutely brilliant. It went right over my head when I heard it originally...and I was listening to The Clash, Bruce springsteen, Elvis Costello, Sex Pistols, Blondie, Squeeze, Rockpile...

Now I see this song as so avant guarde and ahead of its time...it's as if Ravers and Techno alien DJs entered Summers body and performed this brilliant music a decade or two early. And I don't think I've ever seena  clip of her performing (outside of her rock videos days). She is a true goddess. I love how she moves in this video compelling, magic jellyfish beauty in motion.

Hobo Apples

I made some hobo apples last night. I got a tin and put parchment paper in it and then sliced a granny smith organic apple and jammed into the bottom of the parchment paper. Then topped it with a crumble and pecans. Baked for one hour at 350. Yum!

Music At Work

This is a painting I finished this morning. I actually started it the first week we got back from our road trip and then just left it not knowing what to do with it at the time. Its acrylic on paper.
This one I did a couple days ago.
I took a couple paintings to work to brighten up the bar area.

And here is The Tragically Hip song and video "My Music At Work"

PLAY THIS SONG LOUD!!!!!!!!!

Because I can't right now...Stagg is sleeping. Oh no...what totally sad news. Beastie Boys Adam has died. Stagg is asleep and he is going to be sad too at this news ...

I spent many many many hours dancing to the Beastie Boys. The song below is one of my very favourite Beasties Boys songs ever..."Cookie Puss"

I'm Sick Of Pretending: I Don't "Get" Art

One consolation I can take is I’m about 99% sure that nobody’s ACTUALLY into art and it’s more just an exclusive club for rich people to indulge each others’ sense of “whimsy.” Just as nobody wanted to be the first one to go up to the Emperor and say “dude, I can see your asshole,” nobody wants to be the one to go up to the lady in the above photograph and say “You are at least 50 years old. What the fuck are you doing?

Vice Magazine Glen Coco writes about going to Tracy Emim's (very successful famous artist, her photo below) retrspective and you can read the article here..."I'm sick of pretending: I don't get art"
