Corned Beef And Cabbage

Last Wednesday got together and made Corned Beef and Cabbage in honor of St.Pat's Day for the residents of Tent City.
We are a group of people who are dedicated to serving the residents of the "Uptown Tent City" Wilson, Lawrence, and Foster viaducts. Each Wednesday evening, we meet at the Buddhist Temple of Chicago (please note that not everyone is affiliated with the temple) to cook a warm meal and distribute it to whoever is hungry. To the best of our ability, we use fresh, organic, responsibly-sourced ingredients. Message us or leave a post if you are interested in volunteering or offering a donation. Here is our Facebook Page:

Feeding Tent City

A group of us, sometimes five, sometimes 7 or 8 make fresh warm food and take it down to the residents of the Wilson viaducts (and Foster and Lawrence). Three weeks ago we made an African Peanut Stew as well as a creamy chicken stew.

Learning Puerto Rican Cooking!

Green bananas...keep peel on. Boil five minutes. This is such an amazing dish. It's like a salad marinated. It's called Guineitos en Escabeche

Impromtu Sandwiches For People Who Live Outside

I asked a Vet friend of ours to help me find a guy I met last week at a warming center for homeless people. He served in Afganistan....and I thought maybe we could help him find a place to live. So we made up some bagged lunches to take while we drove around looking for him. We gave away a lot of bagged lunches. People seem to really love egg salad!!!

We didn't find him last night but I'm going to keep looking this week.

More Odds And Ends From Conference Road Trip

We stopped along the way at Iowa....with another friend from the McCarthy Society. What's more dangerous than art and a cat on an air mattress!? We had a small art show for our friend and some paintings got a new home!

Taos New Mexico

Hey check out the mountains above Stagg in pic above. We made a special trip to meet with Lee, who I have been discussing life, the universe and Cormac McCarthy with on the Cormac McCarthy Society web forum for the last ten years. We had such a lovely visit. I fell in love with Taos...hey so did Stagg! And we are going to go back for at least a week next time. Next conference maybe?
