I'm Sick Of Pretending: I Don't "Get" Art

One consolation I can take is I’m about 99% sure that nobody’s ACTUALLY into art and it’s more just an exclusive club for rich people to indulge each others’ sense of “whimsy.” Just as nobody wanted to be the first one to go up to the Emperor and say “dude, I can see your asshole,” nobody wants to be the one to go up to the lady in the above photograph and say “You are at least 50 years old. What the fuck are you doing?

Vice Magazine Glen Coco writes about going to Tracy Emim's (very successful famous artist, her photo below) retrspective and you can read the article here..."I'm sick of pretending: I don't get art"

Wiki about about Emim

Never quiet sure what some new stuff is about - Emim fits into that category - now her ex-boyfriend, Billy Childish who I sort of know a bit as he is a local lad from my area, indeed saw him only the other day in Rochester High Street, he at least can paint - he is a man who should be up with Emim and Hirst but isn't .... I don't get art... :-)

I am not sure if its possible to "get" much contemporary art. What helps is talking about it with a variety of people.

Thats pretty cool about your history with Billy Childish. If you like his paintings then that is a huge window into looking at all kinds f art...I would take that as a stepping stone, for sure....because not everyone feels empathy for his work. Thats a big hurdle.

What a stuff of un-ambiguity and preserveness of valuable familiarity about unexpected emotions.
