Homemade Music

I am fascinated by Bonnie Prince Billy and his musci and the way he produces it. Wow...was I ever surprised when we were on the bus and El yesterday taking Tricia up to the airport (GO T-VO!!!) to see an ad for The Cairo Gang and BPB. Above BPB and TCG are performing in a basement...now isn't that a cool concert!? And if you ever get a chance, check out his acting chops in the sort of creepy Old Joy.

Bon Voyage T-Vo!

After a mad two weeks of packing and cleaning...our friend T-Vo is on her way to travel in U.K. and Europe. Here is the send off...I managed to not cry until I got back on the El train leaving the airport...I'm gonna really miss her. So...this adds all the more fire to our plans to hit europe for six months...

One Afternoon Making Yogourt

We're still making our way through Apartment Theory: The Cure, you can see one copy on the table in these pics....and one of the exercises was to buy fresh flowers. My own personal theory is that vodka makes housework much more therapuetic.

So here are the things needed to make yogourt with an electric heating pad. I saw this on Letterman with alton Brown...so put in milk warmed to 120 degrees, and added some organic yogourt, put on the lid, wrapped the container with the heating pad, put it inside a basket to hold it in place for 12 hours. (Alton Borwn used a hotel waste basket to show you could make yogourt on road trips, very clever)

Unfortunately...I did not realize that the heating pad had a safety feature that shut it off after 2 hours. Oh well...back to the drawing board...

Gutter Theory

It's going to be in my top ten list of movies this year, for sure.

How much I loved the movie Exit Through The Gift Shop can not be measured. And I almost don't want to talk about it.

What I do want to say is that the main subject is named Thierry Guetta. We could just want to mess around with his name. We could see that in the movie his name is pronounced "Terry'. But phonically it is "therry' or "theory". His last name is a little like "gutta" or...stretch it to "gutter". In French his last name seems to be related to the verb "guetter" which means something to be watched out for.

...so..."theory gutter" or "gutter theory'...or perhaps, "to watch over theory", "watch out for theory"...

I love you Banksy more than I can come up with words for my love for you...you are my people...xxxoooo

?

How on earth does one deal with all these wires? I got one suggestion to take zip ties and roll the cords as small as possible and attach to the back of the desk. It's very difficult to clean when they are taking over the desk and floor like this. Ergh!

I am very distracted from blogging, reading and many activities...and am focused on this book I mentioned a couple days ago Apartment Therapy: The Cure. Both Stagg and I are reading it. He has a new copy and I got a copy from the library. We both took a quiz about how we felt about the apartment and living space and we had the same answer...here it is...

Weak. Energy drain. Visible problems in need of work have probably been put off for some time.

Ouch. I think the good news we both got the same result. But I have to wonder after all my organizing and housework I regularly do...what am I doing wrong that makes my place not feel like its supporting what we want/like doing. The thing is though...only after one week of reading the book and beginning some of it's exercises...our apartment is WAY more comfortable. Hoefully we can only make it more so in the coming weeks of the exercises in this book.

Now...to deal with those bloody cords...what would you do?

Memorial Day Weekend

Okay...I wouldn't normally put pictures of a sliver on here, or anywhere...but I got a killer splinter in my finger a couple days ago when I was doing all that mad housework. The splinter goes across the entire top of the finger at least half an inch long and almost out the other side and 1/4 of an inch deep under the tip of the finger. It was so bad I was crying on Thursday several times. I really don't cry at pain, I have a huge threshold for physical pain. But ouch! And guess what? Stagg can't take out slivers. He's never done it, now I don't know how you live your whole life and not take out slivers but...well he didn't. So...it's on my right hand finger, in an awkward angle and if I can't get it out with my left hand and a magnifying glass then I have to go to the hospital. I can't go to the hospital for a bloody sliver, right? So my daughter , on the phone, was gonna talk Stagg though the way to take out a sliver and we posted a couple photos for her on Facebook. Yeah just like if we lived in Antarctica. Long distance surgery. Lost my tweezers so we didn't get to drug store till yesterday for tweezers and I loaded up on as many painkillers as I could take. With vodka. We stopped for a delicious burger and vodka on the way home from the drug store.

Anyways, My daughter was checking out the photos and giving advice. Stagg landed up doing all the pushing. He's a little squeamish and I was so high I just dug a hole. Nothing. After over an hour I was beat and wanted to leave it for another day. My daughter said, get Stagg to go inside the wound and grab the splinter with tweezers. i suppose the idea of him doing that gave me one more attempt. Out it came! When Stagg saw the size of it he almost passed out. ( I gotta get this guy First Aid lessons Har!)

Trust me, that splinter looks really unassuming in this photo...it was wide and just over half an inch long. God it felt good when it came out!

Elephant Stone, from Montreal, was the opening band for Brianjonestown Massacre and they were really good.

Wow! Brianjonestown Massacre was awesome! The whole evening was one of the best times I've had going out to see a show. The bands sound was so clean and so deep and wonderful. Plus, I'm sure all the painkillers I took earlier had me in the perfect chillax space. And not only that right between bands we ran into someone we know! Our bartender from Trader vics!!!!! We had met him the first time we went to Trader Vics on an afternoon when I was job hunting in the viagra Triangle...and we had hit it off talking about music and record collections. He's the kind of guy that when we went back on a busy Friday night he remembered us. usually customers remember their servers buts its unusual and real nice when a server remembers a customer. So we landed up hanging out with him and his girlfriend for the rest of the evening. We had some shots and a couple cocktails and the band was all about the music. Totally focused on the music. Incredible night! Oh to top it off, I had made a roast beef dinner which we ate at 1 in the morning when we got home. (hmmm..I was really craving red meat all weekend, a burger and roast beef in one day. we go weeks without eating meat some times) Ahhhhhh!
