Come On Daisy Don't Drown Me This Time

The song above is one of my all time favourite songs. I listened to this song over and over in my car driving to NYC and Vancouver in the summer of 2000. I've never seen the video before. Still looking at cars. I had no idea that stick shift is so unpopular in the U.S. Having a lot of trouble finding a car with manual transmission. Especially with a time constrait we want to get a car by end of this week. Looking at a Camry tomorrow.

And this is such a cool story, that a piece of land may have sunk in Africa with evidence of human culture...

    Beater With A Heater

We have been going through craigslist and grocery store bulletin boards for vehicles. Yesterday we walked along a street that had tons of secondhand cars for sale. It's kind of fun. Some kind of car we can use while we are staying at grandmas. It makes sense because we've had to get around all over and spent a lot on transportation. We also think it would really change up visibly if we had more stuff in the car and bigger paintings. Sometimes people ask if we have more art and larger. We also just don't know whT the next few months are going to hold. Our vision boards have a lot of ideas! It was pretty funny going into car lots and asking if they had a car with stick shift for $500. We can't afford an electric car and the next most envirofriendly car is getting a manual transmission. Besides stick shift is a REAL car ha ha.

I also feel like I don't have a lot to blog about. Right now I'm sitting in bed watching Regis and Kelly for the first time in weeks typing this from my phone. Mostly we just run around doing crazy errands the last few weeks. It feels so good to just sit in my pjs. One funny thing that has surprised Stagg and would probably surprise a lot of people is I've been okay with not watching Ll my shows and movies. We don't have a tv anymore or DVD player they totally melted. We can't even imagine amday we could go buy a tv ya know? We figure at this point we're pushing it by getting some kind of vehicle. Grandmas tv doesn't have cable and all shows cut out. Sometimes when I can't sleep I watch this crazy retro channel with shows like Perry Mason or Policewoman or Mary Tyler Moore. Combined with the cut off neighborhood in boonies the grandma furniture it's like we're in another world and era. Then of course the planes flying over cut out half the shows reception. Argh. But the surprisenfor Stagg is that I am not missing watching all my shows and pop crude. He thought I was just addicted ha ha. But I don't even know who is still on Survivor. Or what's happening on Bravo shows I usually watch heh heh. I am completely out of it with tv and pop culture. I did near the vey sad news about Elizabeth Edwards and her can er. The whole situation with John Edwards is really compelling is 't it? Immean he could have been President, he might ha e had th chance to be even more popular than Barack Obama.

Sometimes I've lucked out with one of my beloved British mysteries on PBS. I ha e caught a couple Wallander which I love he is a Swedish cop and it's such a cool series. I like both versions one from Sweden and one from UK. Also Inspector Morse and Inspector Lewis. I am crazy about th youn actor Lawrence Fox on that series. I will one day just rent or download the othe tv shows I normally watch. It's just pike we are on a massive camping trip staying at grandmas in the burbs.

I had the most exciting news yesterday. My friend Tricia is suddenly back from Scotland!!!! She had planned to be overseas for a few more months but suddenly had to come back to US. I am sorry she had to cut br trip shorter but selfishly I am beyond excited to have her back. We talked on th phone and I almost started crying I was so excited and she is coming to stay with us for a couple days today or tomorrow. We already started thinking about cool road trips to plan.

    Okay time to make coffee....

    Good Morning

One thing that has been kind of cool this past month has been that Stagg andI have been out in the city pretty much all day. We left on public transit at 6 this morning and probably won't be back to sleep till late tonight. We've been doing lots of paperwork stuff. A hassle but the good side is being out and about like slackers or flaneurs. Right now we are at a rather famous coffee shop using the wifi. Stagg comes up to me after ordering our coffee and asks what do I tip on $13.00?. I say 13 bucks what the fuck did you order? We're laughing because like he always gets some kind of crazy drink mocha frapaccino orange foamy extravaganza. The situation is tiring though. Lots of line ups in governement offices for id etc. I sleep like shit at grandmas. Her house is right under the landing zone for O'Hare. I thought I was going nuts like I couldn't sleep at all. So I googles "health issues with flight paths". And there is risk. Heart attacks high blood pressure and strokes are higher stats. Wow at least I wasn't imaging things I for sure feel my blood pressure go up during "sleep". Returning to other good things this month is a feeling that a different door has opened. Two friends said two interesting concepts to us. One was that fire is refinement our buddy Tony from our Skylark book club said that. And Jason said how fire is rebirth these metaphors keep surfacing for Stagg and I.

    What Am I Listening To...

I am listening to some new releases of pop music. I love Eminem's new album. LOVE IT: he can do no wrong! (really good interview with him in last months Rolling Stone btw)I didn't think I was interested in Kanye West's new album but our friend Izzo on Thanksgiving convinced me to give it a listen and its really good. This week Chicago paper The Reader really trashes her debut album. I don't know, I think the author was way too hard on her and I guess if they expected her bisexual and nasty songs to always remain that...then this record which is a kind of experiment with pop would be a disapopointment. I think the review is worth reading though. What The Reader author is disappointed with is what really interests me. Here we have a naughty girl evey bit as tough and sexual working in the tradition of Kathy Acker, Pauline Reage Wendy O. Williams or Courtney Love going mainstream...and I like to see what that looks like...I think shifting from outsider or "the other" and trying to go pop is facinating. anyways so far I like this album, sure it's not as nasty as her previous bootleg stuff...but it's fun and I don't see it as a sell out but an experiment and an artist trying something different.

    Experiment

Hey just testing if I am able to figure out to post from my cell phone. Which would be excellent. Last night we went to the church apple store to check out our options. I had contacted one of my daughters friends and asked them what we should do if we didn't have Internet etc. He said iPhone so we went to check it put. We had spent a fortune on transportation from the burbs sometimes just to be checking info a put jobs etc. We told our guy Patrick at apple our situation. He hooked us up with a phone and way to "tether" on to our computer. He also snuck away while we were being tutored on how to work the phone and got his manager to hook us up with a complimentary key baoRd and mouse . Everyone was amazed our main frame computer survived th fire. Plus the phone cost less than how much we spent going to internet caces etc for 2 weeks. This way we can now use our computer with tethering the cell phone if we need/want. Anyways apple rocks!!!! Okay I wonder if this will work. Typing with my thumbs feels like sledge
