The idea of making an ottoman out of magazines has turned out to be one of my more harebrained ideas. By the time I tried to move the glued together magazines onto a bench to paint, I realized the grave error I had made. I thought it weighed about 30 pounds, but Stagg said much more. I moved this mass of glue and advertising to the bureau, because I don't know what else to do with it, it weighed about 50 pounds.
Sorry I didnt come by when you started. How about roll the magazines like logs. then you can tie them like a raft and put them on "log leg" posts/legs.
Um, we've had a change of vision about the arts event this weekend, we are simplifying...we were about to colonize the neighbourhood with painted furniture...ottomans etc...but last night after a trip to the hardware store and we stood there talking for about an hour till the lights started shutting down...bordering on a meltdown of sorts...;like all the ideas we had...were going to fall over outside...I had the idea of lacing together easels and hanging art like laundry off of them or somethign so impossible...now we are gonna go a different route.
The great thing is, we have so much stuff around here we could show, that we have options.
Hey guess what?
It's snowing while I am typing this...maybe I should start to make an igloo out of magazines?
Minerva Jane: I too think they look cool like that, the mags, I put them in my room because sometines I have to take stuff I'm working on into a new context or situation to think about them...I often hang half finished or almost finished paintings next to my bed, so when I fall asllep or even better...when I wake up I see them in a new head space...
I LIKE it! In fact, it changed me forever - I will never through away another magazine. Just think - furniture!!!! Can you imagine a place furnished with these pieces!
I'm going to start my dark doll box this week - I have gathered up old clippings from the area at Snake River, I have these ghostly little white figures - hopefully my gesso hasn't dried up -
happy creating -
the floor piece is magnificent! you need a hand cart - maybe can make one of magazines! I'm wondering if there is a way to hollow those fellas out if you make more.........?
Diana, yes, hollowing out is something Stagg was suggesting so you two must be onto something. I was thinking of cutting up around the edges...
We rarely throw out magazines and many of these were never ours in the first place, we get them given to us. thanks Diana for all your encouragement. How about a dolls bed made out of magazines?

what you need are castors on the bottom, see.....then you can roll it around.....and a cushion on the top made from more magazines....
Well, funny you should say that, because that's exactly what I thought I would do! It HAS to have wheels...or it's staying in this apartment for ever.

Oh this is fun! I know you'll come up with something, Candy Minx, and I'm looking forward to seeing what.
