I'm not doing so well on the Ebert list: I've only seen (and I use the term loosely, since I might remember very little about some of the ones I have seen) about half. Yikes.

As for you T13, let's see... I have never seen Indiana Jones and The Ark of The Covenant or Casablanca, and I fell asleep through Citizen Cake, about 12 minutes in, on a Saturday afternoon... I'm not sure I like Orson Wells... I thought A Touch of Evil was terrible, but maybe it's because * and I had our first fight before, during and after it, so I've got bad memories!

Run Lola Run? haven't heard of that one. well a lot of movies buffs ot there..... i feel so ignorant.... seem to have missed out on a lot

I've seen exactly 1/3 of Ebert's list--34. Maybe more that I saw years and years ago that I don't remember, but if I don't remember them, they shouldn't count, right? A lot of the others are in my Netflix queue--gotta love Netflix.

I fare much better with your list--the only ones I haven't seen are Citizen Kane and the Godfather II.

Loved Run Lola Run, btw--we watched it in German. Our daughter had seen it in her German class, and recommended it.

Great list. :) I love Star Wars (the original trilogy) and Indiana Jones.

We saw Run Lola Run in the original German in our German language class. Very cool movie.

Happy T13. :)

I'm very curious which two you didn't see on the big list! Run Lola Run is unknown to me also.
Thanks for stopping by.

Hey Candy. Cool list. I've seen all of yours except Breakfast At Tiffany's, which I'll probably never watch now. I've long held the opinion that Citizen Kane and Raging Bull tell any budding actor all they need to know about the craft. Though since neither really deal with comedy, Bringing Up Baby could fill that gap, and then some.

Never liked Casablanca, gotta say, and I thought Lola Rennt had only limited appeal, that of showing the different outcomes of the same situation. Still, it was enjoyable while it lasted. The other seven on your list would comfortably sit in my own Top 50, with four or five definitely making the Top 10.

So we have more movies in common than perhaps you thought possible, what with the Tony Scott debacle and all!

Man,I've only seen 19 on that Ebert list, and most of those only because I saw them in various film studies classes I took in university. As for your list, I've only seen 4.

I've seen 53 off the Ebert list -- a little more than half. That's quite shameful, I must say. Massive props to you, Candy, for seeing 98. Incredibly good going. You simply have to watch those last two ASAP, just to say you've seen 'em all.

I'm with you on many of those! I was a Casablanca virgin until I actually got to see it in a theater on the big screen. Wonderful experience.

Rear Window still gives me chills!

There are many on there I haven't seen including Rear Window and Run Lola Run. I'll put them on my list!

P.S. Thanks so much for offering to tape PJR. My dad did it for me (I think). But guess what? This morning while clicking on to yahoo I saw who had won!! :( I'm still going to watch the finale and revel in all the details.

One of the movies I haven't seen on that list is Tokyo Story. And the thing is...I looked at it in review and plot description and it's vaguely familiar...so maybe I saw it and forgot. I agree that if we forget them, we need to see them again...although exposing oneself to movies and iscussion of movies builds a general rigor for viewing movies. So...and at the moment, I forgot what the other movie was I hadn't seen. Tokyo Story, from all reviews seems to be as amazing as Citizen Kane...

I have not seen 15 of all the movies listed. Now I know what to look for next time at the video store!

Can you believe I just saw Breakfast at Tiffany's a couple WEEKS ago? And I'm a GRANDMA.... the shame.

Thanks for visiting, happy TT!!

Ark of the Covenant ... was that the Sean Connery one? If so, it's the best of the three, I think.
Thanks for stopping by.

I think if I tried to make a list like this, it would look a little different every day....after the tenth day or so, I would likely have taken off those flicks I put there because I thought they should be there, not because I really liked them.

Candy Minx said...

Well Mister Anchovy, I've written this one over and over I always do this...it's hard because I like so many new movies buyt these ones, I always get somethign out of it. It is much easier to write a list of 50 movies than such a small list. And I like a lot of the classics so they always win over the newer ones.

bugger me if i haven't seen every one of these!
this is an historic moment, a list that i can freely sit in front of and say yes to them all.
whether or not i enjoyed them all doesn't matter to me one bit, just that i have seen them all!
i now feel slightly more...more.......don't know what the word is i am looking for! (so not educated!)

Raging Bull - Seen. Liked.

I think one of our TV channels is having a Kathryn Hepburn (sp?) marathon. I watched "Bringing up Baby" last night and I laughed till I cried. How could anyone be so madcap, strong headed, chatter box-y, yet endearing? (The cat was a wonderful actor too) Also watched an interview that took place maybe in the 70's. What a wonderful, madcap, unique beautiful woman!

Breakfast at Tiffany's - love that. Cat cat where are you cat?

I have not seen many of those, but David Lean's Dr. Zhivago is missing from the list.

Anonymous said...

No Lawrence of Arabia?
No Raise the Red Lantern?
No Seventh Samurai?
No Encino Man or Bio-Dome?

...actually, I like doing lists of "fun films that transport me away from life for a few minutes..." things like Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang, Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory (with Gene Wilder), The Wizard of Oz... *sigh*

Candy Minx said...

Ruaf, I love Dr Zhivago, just was keeping my list down to 13.

Matthew, all wonderful movies, am A big fan of Encino man. I love Brandon Frazer, a good looking guy not afraid of looking like a fool in his movies, like Bedazzled made me laugh harder than many many movies. Wizard of Oz, was a tough one, it's number 14, how about that? Maybe it has a place on there instead of Star Wars. I mean, if there wasn't a Wizard of Oz, could there have been a Star Wars with characters fighting to protect "home"?
