Sanford and Son

I am always salvaging something from the garbage. Actually, both Stagg and I are salvagers. He doesn't throw away anything. I am always editing everything around here. We have excellent "garbage" behind us. Red, you would croak! I missed a wild side table yesterday...I meant to go get it, but forgot. It's not there now. There are all kinds of trucks that drive around Chicago and pick up stuff on the street for resale. Our back alley is a feast. This isn't that great, but I brought it home for that outdoor art sale. This morning I'm looking at the studio wondering what the heck to do with this shef...brainstorm! Turned out we need a shelf for cds and it fit just right next to the desk in the kitchen. Actually, not the kitchen. The kitchen is galley style and we have a dining area attached by an arched doorway, where of course we have the desk and computer.

I love salvaging. One man's junk is always another man's treasure!
In the area where I live we have garage sales. The folks across the road had a garage sale then they left the stuff they didn't want at the curb. I got 8 pretty good shape retro kitchen chairs. I recovered them and put them in my 50's diner kitchen!

Remember Peter the Painter who used to live next door to me at Niagara? His entire studio, including stereos and working tv sets, couches, tables, everything, was salvaged, much of it from the loading dock at 109, right behind where Michael's old place was.

Salvaging is awesome. Its the creative touch that you have added that makes it better than new.

This is off-topic, but I left a little note for you off in LibraryThing world.

Dig the shelf; I bet you have a neat home.

Love the bookshelf! Great recycle job! I too love to recycle - it used to get me in trouble renting -I would look at the worst dump and think, "Oh, I can make that really nice." Reality was..not always. Throwing things away is tough when one sees all the possibilities. Right now I'm saving wine bottle corks. Anyway, I think anything you touch turns into ART!
