Uptown Arts Festival, Chicago Oct 14-15.

Stagg and I are participating in an outdoor art fair this coming weekend, Oct 14 and 15, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunnyside Street in Chicago( between Dover and Magnolia). It's a very pretty location with about 30 other artists. We haven't figured out exactly how we are going to display things, and so our solution is "make more stuff" heh heh. He is asleep right now, but I am up early reading and drinking tea...and our projects for today include...
Painting these shelves I found in the garbage yesterday.

Making a ten foot by ten foot floor cloth, and here you can see the canvas we have to work with, it looks lonely there in the dawn dark doesn't it? I don't know we might glue stuff on it, lots of paint. I'll take some photos once we get started.
And then below, are a bunch of salvaged magazines that we use for collage. I am going to try to make, um...er...an ottoman out of them. I really don't know yet how I am going to do that. Thought I'd start to glue pages together inside the magazines, then acrylic the magazines together and start dripping paint and then shellac the mofo. We'll see. Sometimes I get these ideas and they turn out too crazy to show anybody. Now, I should be busy with my acrylic gel medium right now on these magazines instead of blogging...but well I like to work under pressure. And sheesh, god knows where we are going to find the room around here to do this today...

An outdoor fair sounds like fun. Sending good weather vibes for this weekend. I can't believe it is almost the middle of the month already!

No, I can't either and thanks for the weather vibes, that is definately something to consider...although I am willing to build a tent! We are really looking forward to making some lunches and drinking coffee outside with other artists. It's a really beautiful location, something called a "pedway" a term I've never heard before. A traffic calmed area as they might say in Vancouver. One of Stagg's good friends is also participating, he is a clothing designer, so he and I can gossip about Project Runway. Theres going to be live music too.

You were up very early this morning. I was surprised to see your comment at my blog way before lunchtime here. Sounds like lots to do... Have a fun day!

How exciting. I can't wait to see the project as it unfolds. I'd consider building some sort of tent/protection from rain--I worked a coupla craft fairs with my sculptures when I was living in VA and a little downpour can not only ruin the momentum but put some of the work in jeapardy.

Also can't wait to see how you manage to build the ottoman.

sounds like a great way to connect with other artists....

Just how bloody big of an ottoman are you making. Don't you have rooms of old magazines?

I was happily reading through this post and my eyes popped out of my head (for the second time today, first time it was when I had to run for my train) when I read about the ottoman made out of mags. What a fabulous idea! I am sure I'm not the only onle who would LOVE to see step-by-step progress for this. Can we, Candy, please?!?!

Oh, and you never did say if you like Lapsang Suchong... I might put some in with the next Red Cross parcel anyway!

Yep, Red, I'll post some photos tomorrow, of the magazine idea...it's extremely heavy even now. and it's really small so far.

Yes Underground Baker...I have quite a bit of mags, but not rooms of them. But this is gonna be too heavy I think...we'll see...

Minerva Jane, you're right we will have to McGiver some kind of tent. Yikes.
