Gallery For A Day

Welcome to a gallery opening party. I have been blogging for eight months and this is my 300th post.

Participating in Thursday Thirteen means telling other people a little something about yourself. This is my ninth week participating in Thursday Thirteen. I thought today, I would have an art opening. Ah, the freedom of blogging. No jury selection, no grant proposals, no back stabbing . The following 13 paintings are a few of the paintings I have made in the last six months. You may have seen them before, so I hope you won't be too bored, but it is always a little different vibe to see them all in one room all at once. So here is a glass of wine, there are some snacks over at the back of the gallery, make your self at home, and thanks for coming out and supporting a local artist!
Barbie Is My Co-Pilot. 34"x26"

Plato's Spindle #3. 57"x35"

A Year, Too Long For A Play. 34"x26"

Periscope. Each circle about 24" diameter. Actually, this was a collaboration between my boyfriend Stagg and I.

Libra. 40"x35"

Learn To Meditate. 35"x26"

A Year In Figures. 36"x 48"

Plato's Spindle #2. 23"x35"

Byzantine Randy. 24"x23"

Godboatziggerat. 55"x36"

The Ways of The Demiurge. 60"x40"

Giordano's Memory. 56"x34"

The Resurrection Of Ishtar. 48"x60"

When it comes to art, Candy, I'm kind of like Nixon, I'm afraid .. If I'm not mistaken, he once said "I don't know anything about art, but I know what I like." Well, I know about as much about art as Mr. Nixon, but I do know I like your paintings .. thanks for sharing!

Happy 300th post, Candy!

I like the gallery idea, and there's some nice people to mingle with around here. I also like the two Plato's Spindles, but my eyes are also drawn to Byzantine Randy. And Periscope. Cool stuff!

8 Months and 300 posts? Thank heavens you aren't my human! My paws are tired. Not to mention if she did art like that, she'd expect me to help--however even with my help hers wouldn't be that good.

Very nice. However, how did you miss me as a subject?

Thanks for the invite to the gallery opening. Excellent wine! I love the work - and the fact that I can gaze at it and gaze somemore and become lost in the heady pleasure of looking and making the meaning become personal - and yours is of that kind.

For me, I like "A Year, too long..." and "....Demiurge." I truly wish to see it in real time as I want to see the textures, the print up close - -

one of my long term goals is to make an art gallery web site with various artists (I haven't even done my own yet.) - that's why I took two years of multimedia production in college - what do you think, should we? With a shopping cart and everything? Would you be interested if I start that for a winter project?

Congratulations on the 300th post. To see how your blog looks in my RSS reader, see the picture I added to the post today.

[sorry if this comment appears more than once, the Blogger system is acting strangly]

I'm having problems with Blogger, too. :(

I wanted to let you know I stopped by to see your amazing works of art. I really enjoyed the show! Love the Periscope piece!

I'd be really interested to hear how you came up with the titles for the pieces ~ they rock.

Happy 300th ~ Here's to 300 more! Whoo Hoo!

Thanks for stopping by!

mmm, an impressive showing. The works remind one of the whimsy of Paul Klee, the texture and construction of Schwitters and Braque, with the distracted passion of Basquiat. Plus, I like the one called Godboatziggerat; I think it'll nicely match my sofa.

-kudos sweet Candy,

Awesome stuffed figs, Candy. Had to decline the wine that was on offer, however. Meds...you know.

This is a great idea for the Thursday 13. As you know, I just don't "get" art. We've discussed this before a couple of times. So although I appreciate your efforts and applaud your creativity, and am jealous I cannot do much in a visual meduim other than very rudimentary stick figures, I look at your work and go "WHAT?" And for that I'm sorry.

Candy Minx said...

Wow, thanks so much for coming by today folks really very kind of you!

Wandering Coyote, I remeber our past discussion. Let me say...that one of the biggest compliments to me is someone looking at a painting of mine and saying "WHAT?"

I actually get a little high from it, and askin a question is the ultimate compliment for me. I am inspired to post something regarding our past discussions Wandering Couote...I'll work on that in the next couple of days, okay?

Again, I am so pleased to have the company here at the gallery opening, thanks Four Dinners, Shep,Linsay, IMinerva, Karl and eveyone who foudn a bit of time to pop by.

Cheers!!!

Janene, Thank you for asking how I come up with the titles to my work. I am fascinated by the preliterate astronomy recorded in mythology and creation myths. I read mostly non-fiction work realting to astronomy and ancient myths and Shakespeare and I love Giordano Bruno. I have almost always titled my paintings after ancient science practices. I feel those stories travel through time and civilization despite attempts to co-opt them for political and dogmatic purposes. I am an aboriginal.

Candy Minx said...

p.s. Janene, actually I believe we are al connected to ancient peopels and we are all aboriginals...we forgot our roots, thats all...

time to remember...

Hey Candy! Loved the show I especially liked The Ways of the Demiurge. You know I'm crazy for the black, fluid lines... Fantastic idea all around.
Miss and love you

Wandering Coyote said...

I'd love to read what you have to say, and I'm glad you're not insulted or anything. I do recall your telling me that it's OK to question and read my own meaning into someone's work, and that's actually freed up my thinking a lot.

So many fresh feeling energetic works, all done in 6 months, congratulations and keep on the roll! I'm trying to decide if I could like just one,..nope they are all super!
