David Lynch's Public Service Announcement

Thank you Karen!!!!

Hey wow, while I was checking this video out at YouTube I started watching a few other Lynch things...and found David Lynch introducing the movie VERTIGO! What a valedation...because when I posted the other day about the way to understand David Lynch was through Vertigo it was based purely on my own opinion...and there was Lynch introducing the movie, I felt so cool!

He was asked what other movies aside from Vertigo were important movies to him...he said Strozek, 8 1/2, My Uncle, Sunset Boulevard, Rear Window. I have been so revved up and inspired from seeing Inland EmpireI've been writing a lot myself since seeing his new movie, and been enjoying seeing stuff online. Thanks again Karen!

Slightly disturbing, but that is what I expected. Once when I was riding down Lansdowne I saw what appeared to be a dead cat on the street, if that isn't enough to freak you out, I soon realized that it was a huge dead rat, gross. It made me wonder how filthy can things get, before we do somehing.

You're so welcome! I thought of you and *Asterisk as soon as I saw his name this morning. And it freaked me out a bit too...don't like rodents (mice, rats, squirrels - none of them!).

I thought that was a really cool PSA. I don't mind rats, and they fit perfectly both with Lynch and with the message here. It pisses me off so badly, this whole littering thing. The other day, on the way to the local shop, Red and I found two 12x8-inch items of plastic packaging strewn on the floor (they had contained scones or doughnuts). A bin was about 6ft away. Filthy cunts, some people.

And I bought Sunset Blvd the other day. Never seen it. Red said: "I've been praising this film for years and you've never shown any interest. All of a sudden David Lynch likes it, and you buy it!"

She's not totally accurate. I have been interested when she's told me about it too; but I just happen to have it in mind right now, what with people saying Inland Empire is Lynch's Sunset Blvd, and I found it at a good price, so...

Very disturbing. When I see people being so disrespectful and littering I want to slap the snot out of them. And I'm pretty much of a pacifist.

I don't really like rats but this is great to get the message through!

David Lynch is actually hosting a special weekend in May, 25-27 at Maharishi University of Management. If you like David and his work you should check it out at http://lynchweekend.org/

Thanks and all the best!

Timmer, yeah, I've seen a lot of urban rats in my time. It's kind of a surprise isn't it? They are all over St Lawrence market area at 3 a.m. If I go outised around 4 or 5 a.m. here in our back alley...whoa. I've tried to take some photos for the blog "urban jungle" theme but I am always too slow.

* it is a funny thing how people throw garbage on the street isn't it? I don't get it. Oh Sunset Boulevard is so much fun! Funny, I think Mulholland Drive is more like S.B than Inland Empire but then again...Inland Empire is a further journey...

Gardenia, I know I usually am the nerd who actually says something to irritating rude ppeople if they are cruel or lazy in public with garbage.

I think this PSA is also very very funny because it's quite over the top and dramtic, but fun...and also scary. An accomplishment.

Amine, I am so deeply impressed with you and your fellow organizers for promoting this event on personal blogs and websites. You are the third person from this weekend event to leave me a comment and letting us all know about this weekend. I am not only really thrilled to hear from you, but really impressed at your sense of adventure and looking around to find people to attend.

Actually...I would really love to attend. I met David Lynch years ago when he brought Blue Velvet to Toronto for film festival. He was also travellign with Isabella Rosellini so it was a double thrill for me to meet them at a cocktail gala party for the festival.

I would love to participate in your weeked...but I would have to miracuously sell a bunch of paintings at this point. But I am not going to give up...I am going to have faith that I am like the spider and I have woven my future to attend the weekend and my art is going to sell on eBay!!! Oh I hope I was a clever spider before I walked through my web and have woven vast fortunes from selling my art...

...on eBay hint hint any random visitors?

Don't see many rats in this neighborhood, but used to enjoy watching a rat family below my window during my main street days.

What I liked about this little video is that it wasn't the rats that were creepy.

I love Lynch, even if he always gives me nightmares.

Haven't seen Inland Empire yet, but am looking forward to it in my usual, jittery way. (Ideally I would watch it with a pillow clenched to my chest, ready to duck my head into if it all became too much for me.)

Underground Baer, of all places, Vancouver must be playing this at a reportoire theatere by now, no? Yes, very good point that the rats are the LEAST scariest part of his PSA...very good observation.
