Annie Lennox rocks. I remember lip syncing to "Sweet Dreams" in grade five.
I don't usually think of either Bjork or Lucinda Williams as rock singers....
Amy, I agree she really does and what a voice.
Mister Anchovy...last week I would have agreed with you about Lucinda Williams, but she blew me away with this new song of hers. She ranks. Bjork is from a wild punk band from Iceland called The Sugarcubes. She is totally a rock and roll singer.
can't fault you on ay of those...but why just rock singers?
Well, the ones I recognize, I love. :) Patti Smith, Chrissie Hynde, Ann Wilson, Tina Turner, Grace Slick, Annie Lennox, Janis Joplin.
I'm thinking I should look up the rest of them, then.
I'd have to put Pat Benetar in there some where. :)
Cappy, the only reasons for saying just rock singers was just to keep it simple...although I found afterall it was really hard to amke this list so small. I have favourite singers in other genres though...maybe in the future as a list.
Darla, some of these singers are unusual. Diamanda Gals is a punk opera singer she is amazing to see live, very passionate and dramatic.
Carmen, you are right that Pat Benetar should be on that list, and a few others like Aretha Franklin...actually the thing is, I'm not a fan of Pat Beneatar...bad huh? Not my cup of tea.
Ah, what a list. I, too, just made Lucinda Williams a favorite. Can't believe she's been around so long and I hadn't encountered her. Bought "West" this week and am playing it now.
But...Patti Smith, among those listed, is my choice. Great songwriter and performer, whose gritty determination to do it Her Way without compromise makes me admire her.
All the rest (those I know) are good choices.
Now, back to Lucinda.
Female singers I like are:
Aimee Mann
PJ Harvey (early stuff)
Fiona Apple
Siouxsie Sioux
Now I'm stuck...
Heh. I only recognize a couple! But that's the way it goes in the music world sometimes!
This is a late stop-in from last week's TT - you visited me, but I didn't get time to go a-visiting back!
Great list! Thanks for visiting my cars TT.
Btw, I'm a David Lynch fan!
