Worse Than We Think

"Fukushima is the biggest industrial catastrophe in the history of mankind," Arnold Gundersen, a former nuclear industry senior vice president, told Al Jazeera.

Japan's 9.0 earthquake on March 11 caused a massive tsunami that crippled the cooling systems at the Tokyo Electric Power Company's (TEPCO) nuclear plant in Fukushima, Japan. It also led to hydrogen explosions and reactor meltdowns that forced evacuations of those living within a 20km radius of the plant.

humbling for mankind when things like this happen.

We need to think about us, where we are in the world, what the world can do to us etc.

Sadly though I'm as bad as the rest of us, sitting here at my laptop - do you know how much raw material it takes to make a laptop? Tons! It takes gallons and gallons of water in the silicon process for a start... and of course we're connected via loads of other hi-techery, using electricity which is for the most part burning a fossil fuel to create it, then I'll get in my car for 40 mile daily commute... etc. etc. etc. etc..... Easy to say we need to seek alternatives, difficult to do....

Thanks for the link.

Japan was the last country on this Earth that needed massive radiation on its population. The extent of the radiation damage--felt all the way to the west coast of the US--is something to consider in policy.

Furtheron, yep, we have a mouse or keyboard...we are part of the consumer and needs associated directly with all these things.

NBR, your kids should be okay from exposure to radiation....but meanwhile...

X Dell people's kids should take daily supplements of kelp to help expel and protect from radiation exposure on west coast of Canada and US. Too late for us old people.
