Went to see
Inland Empire tonight. One of the scariest movies so much so that I am afraid to go to sleep tonight. Scary psychologically. Crazy as hell. Stagg says I should post "crazy as rabbit pellets" but you'd have to see the movie to see why he says that rather than rat shit. We loved the movie even though it was really really disturbing, it was hard to walk home in the dark.
When presenting screenings of the film, Lynch sometimes offers a clue, in the form of a quote from the Aitareya Upanishad: "We are like the spider. We weave our life and then move along in it. We are like the dreamer who dreams and then lives in the dream. This is true for the entire universe."

I don't think I'm going to get to see this at the cinema. It's on in so few places and nowhere near us. I've read lots about it, and I am really looking forward to it, but Lynch films always scare the pellets out of me. (Did you recognize the rabbits' voices?) I'm glad you loved it, though.
Hola Candy .. I'm insanely jealous that you got to see this one on the big screen .. I'm looking forward to finally seeing it on video someday, but it definitely just won't be the same
* and Reel Fanatic...The first thing we said when we left the theatre...well, after I cleaned up the mess in my pants, was thank god we saw this on the big screen. I really really can't remember how many films I would say that about. You know I am a big believer in seeing movies at the theatre even though I can't always do that...it is worth finding it at a reportoire or art house cinema if possible in your area. Really...it is so big screen. Mind you...maybe it will be okay on tv...because it is filmed in digital.
I knew absolutely nothing about this movie except a photo I saw of Laura Dern, who was incredible...so recognizing the voices of the rabbits? Are you kidding? first the shock of the rabbits sent me into a laughing spasm after that, I couldn't recognize my own face in the mirror I was so scared. And the crazy thing is...I don't think there was even any blood in the movie, oh wait yes, a little bit of blood.
I am glad to have found that Lynch quote from the Upanishad...THAT is the key to the movie and after all...it's not so scary, in fact, it's kind of a liberating movie.

I hope I get to see this too - I think. I like scary movies (not slasher tho) - I hate movies that make me feel hopeless and the quote seems hopeless - like we have no choice once the die is cast - there will be a film festival here sometime this year - maybe!
Having been a fan of Twin Peaks I think Lynch is totally nuts but I like him.
