Walking.
16 pets have died from poisoning in the last three weeks. It's been all over the news. In the same time, 42 soldiers have died in Iraq. Almost no one knows that stat. What is going on with media? I like pets and all as much as the next guy, but really. Let's get some perspective on this folks.
Red, I took this photo on Sunday. do you find that at all weird? I mean Red sent me an email with a dream she had Sunday night that relates to this photo!...I thought it was such a cool dream I've been thinking about it myself and also wondered are we having some weird secret dreamlife together because think about this photo, girl?

Yes, that is green colored pop. It's called Green River made in 1919 for the Prohibition. A toast to life.

It's not entirely suprising that the pet illnesses have superceded the deaths of soldiers serving overseas...
The pet deaths were unexpected and came from a "trusted" source... sadly, the soldier's deaths were not unexpected and came from a visible source. The majority of people at home feel they are at more personal risk from the former than the latter... It's not right, but it's true.
On this note, I'm shocked no one's commented on how if rat poison can get into pet food so easily which was bought, for the most part, at one's local grocery store... how easy would it be to slip some into the base of "human food" and cause the same issues with people?
Let's face it... the bulk of "society" is so wound up in things like Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, and Anna Nicole's baby that they neglect the things that are, in the grander picture, far more important.
Welcome to the "dumbing down" of society. Feed them pap and they'll be too bloated to notice the other things going on...
...which in this case is very sad.
Yes, so true in many ways Matthew. Um, on the other hand I am not so sure it is the public demanding the coverage of Britney's butt or Nicole's tragic death. I understand the interest in these larger than life icons...I do...but the amount of coverage and ratio is left with the owners of media.
Unfortunately you are right about the idea of dumbing down...and using these goddesses as diversions to covering the war.
I think it is disrespectful to the soldiers and their sacrifice so we can shop and drive cars.
I love cars and pets...don't get me wrong. But look at the ages of these departed, most of them are young and can't even afford to buy a car, and now are lost.
I know they all volunteered and pets are innocent. I am suggesting a more balanced demand for news from the public.
After all these 20 year olds are getting us gas for our cars. Lest we forget.
Nice shoes.
Oh yea, too bad about all the dead guys.
ok, just to verify, I seem to be in an obnoxious mood today
Oh no you're not...see I am such a buzzkill with these heavy posts. No one comments, the blog dies out...I don't know...I just think about these things as well as other things...
Candy,
My husband works at LRMC (where the wounded soldiers generally end up). Talk about heartbreaking.
Thanks for this post. {{{hugs}}}
I posted about cemeteries this month - Bringing Cemeteries to Life.
I conduct tours of cemeteries, especially Arlington National Cemetery. It's a constant reminder of our losses, and our gains.
