Women and Money: FREE TODAY!

Women & Money addresses the complicated (and often dysfunctional) relationship women have with personal finance. Orman's direct, non-condescending style is perfect for this subject matter--she begins with the premise that "Women can invest, save, and handle debt as well and skillfully as any man" and then tackles the important question--"So why don't they?" Designed to educate and inspire, Women & Money also offers a "Save Yourself Plan," a five-month program that "delivers genuine long-term financial security." from Amazon

Till tomorrow afternoon...you can download this book for free at Oprah's web site.

I am a registered member at Oprah's bookclub and website...I don't know if that is necessary for downloading the book or not....but it's very easy and hassle free to join Oprah's web site and forums. I downloaded the book in about one second with Firefox. No problem.

I downloaded it with no problems, but you need to have Adobe PDF Reader Thingy.

Although I am boycotting Oprah stuff right now, I do like and respect Suze Orman. I wish this book was around when I was married. The Wasband didn't think I was capable of handling our finances. What did he think I did before we were married? Twit.

Heh heh...oh dear I am sorry your Wasband was a twit but I guess that's why he is a Wasband.

I am curious why you are boycotting Oprah things...I was gonna ask you for your address because I bought you two books! (and some art work) (But uh oh... one is from the Oprah list!)

E-mail me your address if you change your mind...love ya!

Well, I lost a lot of respect for Oprah a few years ago when she discontinued her original bookclub by saying something like "there just aren't any worthy books out there anymore" or words to that effect. I thought that was terribly insulting and just plain lazy of her. More recently, however, I believe the quality of her show has gone down the tubes. It's much more centred around celebrity and decorating and fluff, and I don't think the content speaks to the largest portion of the US, the ever-growing lower class. Her shows now seem to have the target demographic of upper middle class white people with money to spend. I think she's gotten away from her journalistic roots and pandering to where the money is, and I think there is too much of that on US TV as it is, and I also think it's below her.

In the past, I have generally liked Oprah's book picks, though. I was a little annoyed with that "classics" club she did a few years ago because I didn't think those were widely accessible books - nor were they particularly interesting to me.

I will email you my address though because I so appreciate your thinking of me!

Well, I see what you mean...although I don't feel the same exact way. I read what her shows are going to be...record them and then watch the oens that seem interesting to me. She had some amazing programs so far this season "anger" and "adult children of divorce" that were really amazing and inspiring. Yes, she does mix it up with decorating and clothes...and some of those episodes interest me and some don't.

As for her book club...I think the last half a dozen choices have been fairly radical and interesting...I think she is pushing some boundaries.

i wish i could get into this stuff, but i just can't. for the publishing group i used to work for, i had to ghostwrite stories for suze orman and others like her... i think they all have great advice; but i just hate reading the stuff.

I love her! So smart - especially for women who can't and shouldn't rely on men or fate when it comes to finances.

Oprah magazine is a must to find out what is happening!!!! :)

Martha, my boyfriend feels thesame as you...I guess she used to be on radio all the time. I can't say I am crazy about reading "self help" books...but on the otherhand...I have read hundreds because I like t know what is out there...and I feel maybe it is wise to see all the ways of advice and take what works and consider the rest? I thought it might be of value to people who have trouble with money or organizing to know the book was for free for a day...

Gardenia...it is sort of shckoing to imagine, but tons and tons of women do not manage money...are not involved in the budget making of their families. What I gathered from seeing this woman on Oprah the other day that this will help families as well as women and has som e useful details. I think Oprah magazine is a good stepping stone for many women...it helps them start to look at things outside their own schedules...

Anyone who feels the need to put herself on the cover of her own magazine each and every month has issues, if you ask me.

Heh heh..thats funny Wandering Coyote. I think Oprah has always been opne and honest that she has issues. I watched a special on her family last week and she talked about being raped at 9...and then molested till she was about 12 by a friend of her mothers. Then she surprised me by saying how she had been promiscuous and having sex all the time till out and about while living at her mom's house...she went wild...and then had to be sent to live with her dad. She arrived at 14 at her dads place pregnant. He had no idea. She had the baby and it died a few days later. From then on her father said she started to live and think a little more...

I had always known Oprah was raped as a young person...but I didn't know the other stuff.. Yep. I'd say sh is pretty honest about her issues...and I think that is why she appeals to so many people as an inspiration...

I knew she'd been molested and had had a pregnancy, though I didn't know she'd actually had the baby.

Whatever. Yes, she's been open about her issues. No argument there. Still, I find it ridiculous that she puts herself on the front of all her magazine covers.

Heh he...well you're a tougher one than me Wandering Coyote...I've known many women who were raped as children like Oprah...and often their whole adult lives are ruined...many emotional and personal disorders...so I tend to cut some slack. I feel a lot of compassion for people who have been abused as children...maybe I am just a big suck? Heh heh...

So many people grow up to be assholes who never had a problem or a worry when they were children...they are just selfish...so to see a child rape victim grow up to be relatively healthy is kind of a miracle as far as I can tell...

Meanwhile...I suspect that designers and marketers believe that "Oprah" is the brand that sells that magazine and they put her on the cover...because she sells...
