Shedding Needles

I love jigsaw puzzles! I've taken to doing ones by what my ilk calls "artists" (who would be astounded to find their work so used) so that when they are done I have this wonderful image on my coffee table to look at for months.

I remember having my consciousness raised to what a work of art is though when the controversy over the geese at the Eaton centre happened. The artwork of geese flying up in the mall was dressed with red bows for its first Christmas. I loved it! So festive! Then the artist sued the Eaton Centre to have the bows removed. Only then did I get what a travesty it actually was. So far though I still like my Matisse Women (dancing) puzzle and my Van Gogh bedroom puzzle. ok I know I'm blathering but you had me at the puzzle.

That's great Muppie. We have been puzzle mad around here...but this one i killing us. Super hard! Yes, the Joyce Weiland/Michael Snow geese...boy that was a long time ago...I remember it. Have you ever seen the inflatable plastic "punching" toy of "the scream"? I think the thing about the work of art...isn't so much that one couldn't/shouldn't tie red ribbons to it...but that it is up to the artist, and it was about protecting the original iimage.

Meanwhile...the real "life" or value in consumption of art... these days is the pop culture co-option of it...onto coffee mugs, jigsaw puzzles, adverts, t-shirts, stationary...
