I'm trying to deal with the world, to understand it in some way, to pass to some other kind of level below its surface. The question—it's been said—that exists in every work of art, poetry or fiction and, I suppose, maybe even in music and painting, is the question How does one live? A writer addresses that question again and again, sometimes directly, sometimes indirectly. From
an interview with author Stephen Dobyns

I remember that book....
Thanks for the link -- that looks like a fascinating interview.
Just finished reading some reviews of this book. Looks worth putting on my reading list. I love murder mysteries as much as I despise murder.
How does one live? At the very basis, sometimes it is hard. I spoke at length yesterday with a friend who is a brilliant, highly educated, highly functioning person, deep and caring and beautiful, who grew up in horror. The question goes through my mind - how does one live and next, how does one live as someone who cares so deeply for other people and the earth as well?
How does one live? Well, struggling, rich, poor? Moved with passion to create - moved with passion at all or living dead beings? What a fascinating question you have posted.
Mister Anchovy, I figured you would remember this book...he is a terrific writer, his poetry is very good too.
thomas Lyn, I am glad a writer stopped by, as it is good reading for a writer. I think you would really like his novels too.
Gardenia, this is a terrific novel. And the question "how does one live" is the most important and sometimes...I think many of us the whole world doesn't realize we have the choice on how to live and how to make decisions. It moves in evry realm from environmental to work to family doesn't it? We don't have to do all the same things that the major part of the population does just because it is popular or easier or selfish motivated...
How does one live?
Beer in one hand and a ciggie in't other. Regular chicken vindaloos and the odd bottle of vodka.
