How To Build A Tiki Bar

Humu Kon Tiki is one of the first blogs I visited on a regular basis and she has all kinds of cool links to Tiki stuff on the web. I love tiki bars and there used to be a few in Chicago...but now there are only one or two left...we'll be going to one of them soon and I'll post pics. Build your own tiki bar!

I used to, on occasion, visit a tiki bar in Albuquerque, where a Don Ho wanna be and his wife would sing and dance. There really is nothing like hearing the song "Tiny Bubbles" over and over while you are throwing back mai-tai's.

Shad, that sounds like my kind of joint! I loved the whole 90's revival of swing music there was an amazing club in Vancouver that opened, it had a house band and a cigar bar and was designed a little like Cuba flavor...and it was like a huge tiki bar dream. The house band was a little known local singer, Michael Buble.

Tim, I don't think there is one left in Toronto...a Trader Vic's was there about ten years ago..BUT!

Trader Vics had closed all it's locations just about at one point...it seems the company franchise has regenerated and I just noticed they may have opened a new location in downtown Chicago. They have a new one in Dubai. People travel all over the world to visit Tiki Bars...

here is a collection of swizzle sticks by one such enthusiast.

Crap, my basement still has that tacky wood paneling. maybe a tiki hut is just the thing to spice it up!

I don't need a tiki bar, but I'll take an icy cocktail on this hot and humid afternoon.

I want a full pub in my house. Beer on tap n all. Tiki bars sound weird so I'd probably like em.

Lots of Tiki bars down here on the beach, LOL! Makes me want to visit one NOW! I think our town is also now the proud residence of a real Martini bar or whatever they call them located on the bay!
