Stagg and I have batting around ideas for a few weeks. We feel we might need or want to make some changes and make our life even more fun than it is...In many ways we have an element of freedom because we don't have tons of bills and we don't have a mortgage holding us down. Maybe we would like to own a building? Maybe not? We are at a feeling of crossroads...and opportunity...
-he wants a different job...a job where people are more fun and the morale is cooperative and positive.
-We thought about opening a gallery and/or retail store (but no one buys art...so is that a dumb idea?)
-should we put all our stuff in storage and travel for two months? (but then..what do we do then?)
-we have to pay off some credit cards and keep those funds flowing...
-we would like a situation where we can work together in the day or make films together...in the same spot.
-should we move to New Orleans and work in bars? Rent is super expensive though...
-should we open a retail art gallery boutique somewhere...(Toronto, Vancouver, Chicago?)
-should we get a different bigger apartment but with more costs?
We thought it might be fun to ask blog visitors what they think...when you leave a comment here your blog will be linked. 1) Red Letter Day 2) Mister Anchovy 3) Tweetey

The idea of dropping everything for few months and travelling is so, so appealing to me. I would do it in a heartbeat... if I didn't have the kitty commitment.
Moving to New Orleans sounds like fun too. I'm working on a N.O. book right now and it looks incredible. I am itching to go.
And I would urge anyone who gets on well with their partner to work with them. It's worked beautifully for Asterisk and me, and I love to spend almost every hour of the day with him!
Good luck with your decision!
Retail would be fun, if you could find the right idea for the right place. Traveling is always fun too. If you open a gallery and are looking for artists, I know some (Har!). I have a little fantasy about opening up a bbq joint like that place with the armidillo in Houston...add a little pub and a takeout window and live accordion music, and voila, a happening place.
Red, can you believe it...I didn't even think of you and * how you work together!!! I completely forgot!!1
This idea is really important to Stagg and I...we work really well together and wewantto come up with a way to do our stuff and be nearby all day! Thank you so much for your encouragement...this makes me excited!
Mister Anchovy, yes a bbq place in TO would be lovely I think. We are toying with the idea of some kind of snazzy artgallery with recycled products and stuff. Just fragments of ideas plus some strong ideas...oh don't worry we know you know a couple of artists and thy would be among the first to be shown!! HAR!!! Thank you for your enthusiasm...it's hard for Stagg and I to make decisions...but once we do boy are we committed ha ha!
Dropping everything for a few month and then moving to Chicago then you will be closer to ME!!!! LOL.. Then open up a shop of some sorts. Sounds good to me..
Tweetey...it's so liberating to hear from you and others about what we should do...because it sounds so "doable" when you say it like that! Sheesh...I'm starting to get really inspired about change. Stagg and I are both oddly...afraid of change...which i am sure sounds weird...I am very adventrurous and I do take risks...but I hem and haw over them frst...does that make sense? And yet...I think people think fo em as someone who will jump at anything...which in some ways..I do jump...but after "risk assessment" ha ha! Thanks Tweetey!!!
Your welcome. I am a jump feet first and Jeff is the thinker of the two of us. I will do just about anything with out thinking first. Jeff has to think of it first and then make up his mind. By then he has almost always talked himself out of doing it.
The dream comes first, then the ideas, then the planning, then the action. I know you've had the gallery at heart (and much more) for a long time. New Orleans would be a great place to put that together - plus be a part of rebuilding - and along the coast you feel like you're on vacation all the time - even when you work. I am like you - so stirred when I feel those changes coming, the n totally analytical, bouncing back to the "gut" - then risk taking. This will be an adventure being in the cheering section as you guys make your future
Research and see if there might be any government grant money going to N.O. for rebuilding - search on State level and Fed. Gov. level....even historic building rehab monies....any of those old buildings redone could make a great gallery plus living quarters...maybe same thing around Chicago too - historic bldg. rehab., new business start up money ?
go for it! change is totally scary at first, but it's so much fun. i keep hearing portland is a pretty awesome place to live... don't know why i thought of that... but thought i'd throw it out there :)
and if you want some vacation change... come see ME in dallas!! ;)
Gardenia is right: first the dream, then the idea. You know you wanna work together; now how? Doing what? Unfortunately that's the trickier bit. But you already know it has to be something you enjoy...
The ideal thing might be to find one thing that will really "sell", maybe a service of some sort (let's say pet-sitting, for sake of argument); and one thing that is a passion might might be a hard sell (making movies, say). That way, hopefully the one can subsidize the other, but you still get to spend all your time together.
You guys are super-rad anyway, so whatever you decide will be supper-super-rad. Good luck!
Thanks Gardenia, Martha and Asterisk! Martha, I grew up on the west coast-I miss it every day, and I've heard that Portland was the new "Barcelona" which was the new "Prague" as in, hip places to live and visit.
Gardenia, yes first the dream...and I guess we have the dream part down...now need to work on the facts and actual work.
Asterisk, thanks you make a lot of sense...we are still thinking...no big answers since I posted this but lots of great encouragement...from you and others, thank you...we need to put things into action...
