Odetta-R.I.P.

I've seen Odetta a number of times over the years. She had an incredible playing style and voice.

Odetta, the classically trained folk, blues and gospel singer who used her powerfully rich and dusky voice to champion African American music and civil rights issues for more than half a century starting in the folk revival of the 1950s, has died.

That is sad. People like her arent recognized enough.. I know I had no idea who she was until now. Thanks for sharing..

That was quite a haunting, powerful performance. I may have to seek out some of Odetta's music, because I know very little about her. Whenever I think of Odetta, I'm reminded of the original version of the movie Hairspray. There's a scene where Pia Zadora (who plays a beatnik) says that she listens to Odetta while she irons her hair.

If you make a difference as this lady certainly did you haven't done half bad.
