Making Friends?

I just went to the grocery store to get some milk.

I have this new little routine where I might stop and have a lunch and read a mag at the pub acrtss the street from the grocery store.

So, I've got the fabulous Made To Stick:Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die with me and I order a coffee and a snack and set down to read for a few minutes on the way home. This book by the way is awesome. Quick easy and very inspiring. Next thing I know these three gentlemen settle in next to me. They don't want to sit by the window, and I say "oh you skipping work?" And we begin to chat...one of them quite taken by my book and we all discuss the wonderful jacket design.
They weren't skipping work, see I am a smart ass, just avoiding the bright sunlight in pursuit of talk and eyecontact comfort. We just had the most delightful conversation, I passed out my art cards for my blog and one of the fellows gave me his website...so here it is:

Gio Stories maybe I amde some new buddies at the neighbourhood pub...fun!

Um, I got home and I don't have any milk. However I did get jalepeno, culbanelle and other chilis, mushrooms, red pepper, onions and celery to make with ground beef and steak a huge pot of chili. Oops. Well at least I got a loaf of bread for Stagg's lunch.

I Can't Make A Fist

Well, we did pick up Barefoot In The Park the other day on our walk and there was a big sale and I held back on dvd purchases and only got two movies. They couldn't be more different from each other if I tried to get two extremes. The other movie is Mulholland Dr.

If you want to sound really pretentious or get a grant for making art just use the phrase "diametrically opposed" in your "artists statement" and you'll probably get the attention of some suit doling out money for art. Well these two movies are well, really different from each other.

You know those times when it's cold and you might as well stay indoors and watcha movie? You don't even want to go outside and rent a movie? Well, that was one day about four years ago, and my friend and I looked at the dvd collection. I thought, I'd like to re-watch Mulholland Dr. It's crazy as rat shit and maybe here in the house with othing else to do I will actually understand it this time. I crack to my friend, "you know David Lynch should have a manual come with his movies like helpful hints or how to watch my movies" And my friend kind of tolerated my attempt at humour and kind of laughed. I think I'm uproarously funny sometimes. So we dig out Mulhollland Dr. and I put the lights up on because I was really scared when I saw this movie in the theatre...no point being all creeped out in your own home, right? My buddy puts the dvd into the machine and I am looking at the dvd case. Inside there is just a photo of a street sign. I think well, maybe there are movie credits under this photo. I turn the liner picture around and dagnabbit...if there aren't a list of helpful hints on how to watch the movie!!! We died laughing, couldn't stop laughing.

When I bought the dvd Mulhollland Dr. the other day, we walked to the Irish pub, and I immediately opened the new dvd...and na da. Zip. Nothing. What a rip! So I e-mailed my buddy who had the dvd from a few years ago and he just sent me the list inside his copy of Mulholland Dr.

1. Pay particular attention in the beginning of the film: at least 2 clues are revealed before the credits.

2. Notice appearances of the red lampshade.

3. Can you hear the title of the film that Adam Kesher is auditioning actresses for? Is it mentioned again?

4. An accident is a terrible event... notice the location of the accident.

5. Who gives a key, and why?

6 Notice the robe, the ashtray, the coffee cup.

7. What is felt, realized and gathered at the club Silencio?

8. Did talent alone help Camilla?

9. Note the occurrences surrounding the man behind Winkies.

10. Where is Aunt Ruth?

11. What is in the trees that belongs in the ground?

Pub Hopping

The river was dyed green for St.Paddy's Day. Andrew's in town from New York, what a cold gorgeous sunny day we enjoyed.

Standing with the heads of industry.
Ladies, this is Marco. He is single and works every night here at the Billy Goat Tavern except Saturdays and Mondays. Made the best vodka and tonic I've had in ages.
This is the place that inspired the sketch on Saturday Night Live, "cheeseborger cheeseborger, cheeseborger". I guess when the orginal cast from Second City Comedy was in Chigago they must have come here...lots of press people have made this place their lunch time hangout...Roger Ebert included.
Take note, ladies, Marco has talents, he took this photo for us.
Andrew was taken by the beat cop on the Segway, we stopped to visit. We were on our way, between drink stops, to find me a copy of Barefoot In The Park with Jane Fonda and Robert Redford. It was on tv, as we left the house and I was laughing so hard, I said we gotta get a copy. (more on that later)

He is showing off and doing spins. He can moonwalk. He fell when he first was assigned the beat, and broke both his wrists, was in recovery for four months!
I asked the cruiser cop, "Be honest, you all are really embarassed by the Segway cops right?" He laughed and said" I was at first, but now I'm okay with it. They are great in a crowd and people really respond to them."
Football is a religion here, see the Budweiser tap handle is a football player in brass.

Dinner at Buddy Guy's

Michael Coleman. Everytime I'm in chicago I have to go to Buddy Guy's and our friend Andrew was in town and we'd heard Buddy's was moving...yikes, so we had to make a stop.

What else do you want or need? Live music with some of the best food in the city. (I haven't got the name of this band here onme I'll add it later, sorry)

No way I can eat all the ribs. Stagg took some for lunch with the corn bread. Besides I had to save room for the chocolate cake with kahlua sauce.
These are the best collard greens I've eaten even south. I could eat gallons of them.

Lots of memorbillia around in here. In case you didn't know Buddy Guy used to play with Hendrix. Notice the five string Fender...it's from a special edition in the 60's.

Crazier Than Rat Shit

Went to see Inland Empire tonight. One of the scariest movies so much so that I am afraid to go to sleep tonight. Scary psychologically. Crazy as hell. Stagg says I should post "crazy as rabbit pellets" but you'd have to see the movie to see why he says that rather than rat shit. We loved the movie even though it was really really disturbing, it was hard to walk home in the dark.

When presenting screenings of the film, Lynch sometimes offers a clue, in the form of a quote from the Aitareya Upanishad: "We are like the spider. We weave our life and then move along in it. We are like the dreamer who dreams and then lives in the dream. This is true for the entire universe."

Still Life

My Secret Lover

I wasn't able to post any photos for the last couple of days...and these two of Chris Cornell (and me shamelessly in here too...hey I just wanted to see what we looked like together) I had intended to include in my list of rock singers yesterday. Stagg, my love, I let you watch America's Next Top Model with me, so I think it's okay for me to post a pic of me and Chris...if only I knew how to photoshop it here right now. Well, looks like blogger is letting me post photos again. Regis is all out of surgery yippee and doing fine. Hmm...I look like I might devour Cornell here. I suppose I shouldn't have said out loud that Stagg watches America's Next Top Model with me...ooops. Well, really it's just as funny that I admit I watch the show. Listen carefully. You might be able to hear the last thread of my dignity unraveling.
