Terminator Junkie

I was pretty excited when I heard there would be a tv show based on one of my favourite movies. I was crazy for Terminator movies. I even played the terminator arcade game. (unfortunately i can't find a download for Mac).

I heard mixed reviews about the show but I really liked it so far. i figure if they don't hook me then they don't know what they are doing.

I liked a lot of things about the two episodes so far: the actors, one of whom looks like Faye Dunaway, the opportunity to play around with plot and time travel, and some of the action. Summer Grua plays a cyborg who looks like Faye Dunaway is very good...she is a dancer and is able to convey her body work into some awesome robotic movements. I love that the script has begun to play with aspects of the Terminators, for example trying to escape while the cyborg has been stunned (it takes the cyborgs 120 seconds to reboot) pressed for time single mother extraodinaire takes "good Terminator" puts her on an office chair and throws her out the window passed out while her son and her run down the fire escape.

I just like all the gaming and problem solving that might occur in such premise as Terminator story.

There is a lot of emotional exploration possible too. The teen future messiah misses his role model from the past, someone his mother was in love with...and he breaks into his house...adding one more character with a secret or the potential to risk their safety and lives.

Plus...the "bad Terminators" have a whole asswhoopong itinerary and their own inventive problem solving...very fun so far!

Cappy, I thought it was released around you at the same time in the press releases I read, oh rats. I thinkyou might like it...hot women, robots, time travel! Oh my!

Tweetey, yep, I think there is so much story telling potential. Apparently the "son" is a popular teen actor so maybe that will keep the rating up. I worry thiskind ofexperiemnt might not adopt to tv...or grab an audience...

Having exhausted the franchise with 3 movies (or was there more than that?), I can't image this will sustain itself for very long. But then again, I'm not known for being an excellent predictor of what the public will love.

Mister Anchovy...the science fiction fan base is a devoted one. But this sucess doesn't really depend on what the public wants, it depends on the storytelling. Terminator was a brilliant movie and the sequel was even better than the first movie...and it barely touched some of the ideas you could play with. Like paranoia, mental health, single parenting, time travel, enemies that may or may not be superior to your allies, faith, determination, action...this has the kinds of possibilities that "The Next Generation" brought to classic Star Trek program.

And besides...since when did "the public (which includes you) become the bad guy? Heh heh...the public loved Shakespeare, Bob Dylan, Dickens and gay rights.

Not a bad track record so far...

Speaking of popular teen actors, have you heard about Brad Renfro? He was the kid in The Client, and was also in Sleepers and Apt Pupil. He died the other day, aged 25. Christ... He had had a lot of drug trouble, but still, if Anthony Kiedis makes it to his grand old age, and Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode... Strange how some people just succumb to drugs and celebrity lifestyle, maybe...

Anyway, I dreamed about you and Stagg a few nights ago. It was a crazy dream! You were living close to the south border of Brazil. And we came to visit you, there was a black panther sleeping on the branch of a tree, in this really luxuriant forest. And your house, more like a big log cabin, really, was in a clearing, but surrounded by the jungle. You made us feel super welcome! Stagg, too. And Mr Anchovy and Tuffy P were also there, and a bunch of other people (mostly girls, I think). Then I was going to the kitchen and I asked if anyone wanted a beer, and you said yes, then everybody else followed your lead, and in the end I had to fetch 18 beers! I don't remember much of what came after... I think Asterisk and I got lost driving back to my mum's house (by then it wasn't the Brazilian forest anymore, it was my hometown in Italy). Weird, uh?

Remind me to tell you sometime that I'm two degrees of separation from the lead in The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Oops, I just did. Name-dropper! I think it starts over here quite soon, actually.

Red, what an incredible dream...it sounds lie a fairytale! A black panther...the number 18...friends...maidens...log cabin...ooh it's almost like a David Lynch mythology. You know what I forgot to tell you that I had a dream about visiting you and *...when we got to your place it turns out you were a clothing designer and started showing em all the dresses (some even couture) that you had made.

*, the woman is gorgeous...at first I wasn't sure I was going to "bond" with her...but she has grown on me. I look forward to hearing if you watch the program what you think.

I too love Terminator movies. Especially when I need to escape. I haven't seen this series on our channel lineup. Which network is carrying it?
