I got one of those mass e-mails and almost didn't open it...but glad I did, I'm sure you've all gotten this one, but just in case you didn't here it is...
A few years ago I was working in a bar and late one night I noticed I was singing along to a song...so I went over to the satellite feed to see what band I was enjoying. I shouted out to my co-workers ala Brendan Frazer in Bedadazzled "Oh my god, I'm a White Zombie fan!" Actually, it was the Rob Zombie song "More human than a human"...and since then he has become one of my favourite horror directors. But I was not formerly a White Zombie fan. White Zombie was not my cup of tea...in fact, I probably made wise cracks about people who listened to White Zombie..but oh a lila was played on me as has happened over the years when it comes to music...Have you ever found your self converted to a genre or performer and reliquising your self imposed sense of "taste" or enjoyment? (This video I found on Rob Zombie's YouTube page, someone took the soundtrack to one of his trailers and made the above video, it's pretty good!)

Man, how long must that muppet trailer have taken to make?! insane...
Yeah, Rob Zombie says something about the level of work in this video in his intro...which attracted my attention. He said he couldn't believe people are out there putting this much work into something...and its not their job or some such....I knew, hmmm...I better check this out...and of course, I dig that green frog!
great pics and vid. an inspiration!
I can think of a number of times when I've found myself really enjoying music I had decided not to like. I recall the day I realized that the Dixieland my dad listened to all the time when I was growing up was fantastic stuff and not the crap I had firmly believed it was. That was around the same time I realized that all those traits that bugged me about my dad were the ones I shared with him. Har! When Tuffy and I went to see Prince not so many years ago, I was reluctant to go, but it turned out I loved the show. When I first looked at the schedule for the International Accordion Festival, I wasn't worried about skipping either Yves Lambert or Yuri Yanukov - and both turned out to be highlights of the festival for me. On the other hand, I've managed to steadfastly dislike some other acts for years, without being in any danger of changing my mind.
Thanks Mike, I can't stop laughing everytime I look at that Dauchand with the giraffee costume I keep losing it.
Mister Anchovy, I remember you getting back into those Dixieland albums. I used to hate country western music when I was a teen ager. Just hated it! And then, I don't know I started liking it...I am not sure when likely whe I was getting into Rockabilly.
I am not a big fan of classical music, I find it depressing, but I like it in movies occassionally.
I have never let my taste in music stop me from having a good time though...too many weddings...where I would rather dance than sit out of a Neil Diamond or Manilow cover tune ha!
